Diversity in Broadcast & Public Speaking

Before becoming a board member of Rise – a group for gender diversity in the broadcast media tech sector – I was a 2019 mentee on their award winning mentoring programme.

Through my board position I have been able to showcase diverse talent by producing many of the episodes of their Rise In Conversation Webinar Series, which you can find here. I have had the privilege of interviewing women in senior leadership roles from the BBC, The Financial Times and ITV.

I have also been invited to speak for SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture Television Engineers) on the inaugural session for their She/Her Club and as a SMPTE Storyteller at their Annual Technical Conference, as well as joining a panel discussion for The IABM on “How to be an Ally” in conjunction with Rise.

If you have listened to my podcasts you’ll know that I have tried my very best to talk to as many diverse guests as possible, many of whom are working in the UK broadcast industry. I’m still figuring out what else I can do in a meaningful way that will make a tangible difference in improving diversity in our industry, given the fact that the major UK broadcasters have ringfenced huge pots of money for this cause. That’s where YOU come in.

Please get in touch with me if:

👉🏼 You’re a media organisation who needs support in trying to recruit individuals from diverse backgrounds. I’d love to help by sharing my experiences and offering you insights into attracting diverse talent.

👉🏼 You’re an organisation who is already doing great work in this area. I want to collaborate with others to find ways of reaching our common goal of building a talented community of broadcast professionals that reflects the diversity of the UK. 🙌🏼 💪🏼

👉🏼 You’d like me to produce or host/moderate a panel session or 1:1 interviews that showcase diverse talented individuals at an industry event. *

*By doing this you will help me (sort of) fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a TV presenter – this was before I ‘got serious’ and decided I wanted to be a camera operator instead. I suppose you could argue I’m already fulfilling that dream by presenting my own podcast series. Still, I’d love the ‘power of the mic’ on stage in front of an audience too please, well at least virtually for now 😁
